Repair and Prevent Labia Lacerations with Labiaplasty

from:

Every woman is unique. The very part that makes her a woman is as unique as her fingerprints. Her most private womanly parts are the labia majora and labia minora. Some woman have large labia, just as many woman are large breasted; it is perfectly normal to have large labia. Childbirth can affect the size of the labia minora, as can aging and weight gain or weight loss. As we age the tissues in the genital area can sag a bit, just like breasts sag over time.

It is fairly rare, but occasionally a woman will develop labia lacerations to her labia minora, which are the inner lips. The labia majora are the fatty outer lips that cover and protect the inner lips that are usually thin and delicate like the petals of a flower. Sometimes the friction of intercourse can cause labia lacerations; which can be incredibly painful to this delicate area. Women with larger inner labia may experience pain and bleeding from intercourse. To help prevent shearing, which can cause labia lacerations, women should apply a lubricant prior to having sex.

The inner labia (minora) may differ from woman to woman. They may be thin and delicate, or thick and bumpy. Labia minora are flaps that may be large and long or small and short, but in essence they look similar to butterfly wings. In some women the labia minora will become so large and long that they hang down below the labia majora. It is fairly rare, but labia lacerations can happen when the inner labia hang down and become stuck to the inner thigh or become pinned between the leg and the underwear. The act of walking and sitting can cause enough shearing action to cause labia lacerations, which is bothersome and painful.

Many woman that are prone to labia lacerations decide to have their labia minora surgically reduced; this surgical procedure is called a labiaplasty. When the labia minora lacerate from shearing it is excruciatingly painful. Labiaplasty is a very painful surgery; however, the post surgical pain is only temporary, and heals very quickly. The expected outcome from undergoing labiaplasty is to prevent labia lacerations.

Generally, you might not give much thought to your labia; however, if you are one of those women that have long inner labias that hang below your outer labias, and they become lacerated from shearing action between your legs, then all your attention will on that part of your body because there is severe pain. There is no need to suffer in silence; make an appointment as soon as possible to be examined by your physician. If you suffer from labia lacerations, your doctor may feel it is necessary for you to undergo labiaplasty. Most women who have labiaplasty are happy with the results.

A woman that has had a labiaplasty, to prevent labia lacerations, should always follow her doctor’s post operative instructions. If her doctor has directed her to abstain from sexual activity for a period of time, it is to allow the area to heal completely. She should keep the area clean and dry to prevent an infection from forming. When drying this area, she should always blot it dry to prevent friction that may lead to more discomfort and irritation.
